On August 11, His Eminence Frank Cardinal Leo was presented with the King Charles III Coronation Medal by Premier Doug Ford.
In a private ceremony at Queen’s Park, Premier Ford read the below proclamation:
“His Eminence Frank Cardinal Leo, by command of the King, the Coronation Medal is hereby conferred upon you in commemoration of His Majesty’s Coronation as King of Canada, and in recognition of your valuable contribution to your country. Congratulations.”
In total, 30,000 medals will be awarded to honour outstanding individuals that have made a significant contribution to Canada or attained an outstanding achievement abroad that brings credit to Canada. Of those 30,000, 4,000 medals will recognize members of the Canadian Armed Forces.
The Coronation Medal is the first Canadian commemorative medal to mark a coronation. Manufactured by the Royal Canadian Mint, some of the other local recipients include St. Michael’s Choir School’s Peter Mahon, Toronto Police members who served in assignments overseas and select doctors, scientists and staff at Sunnybrook Hospital, among others.
